"Holy Crap"

We are what we are. So much unknown unexplained everything so jazzed up with hype bright colors fear greed all the major low vibe food groups. However the real stuff is here everywhere in us around us all the holy crap. So we just do what we know how for the good.

Not being 'exactly' Christian don't mean I don't believe in Angels, and faeries. One doesn't need the other. As a pissed off deity once told off Job.
"Where were you when I laid the foundations of the world?"
I don't know about Job, but the Angels, and assorted Sprites were around
doing the number crunching, and catering for the work crews.

I make my pretty things for their own sake. I make them so they will exist.
I make them because this is the world I want to live in.
Live in even if such a world can never be.
Like a soul dreaming a beautiful aria in hell.

I find good natured kindness everywhere.
It just insists on being there. This is where Hope lives.

I just found a box full of tiny stuff.
I had thought them long gone.
Vanished in the storms of my life. Yet here they are to comfort me.

Years ago. I'd do the midnight to six am on air shift. This happened because many hosts sometimes just wouldn't show up or the recorded programs just weren't around. So as the on duty engineer I'd read stories, and play music.
This to keep company with whoever was out there.
Sometimes my radio pals were about. Max Anne Sharon R. Paul. We'd hold forth by telling stories      of our collective century of on air radio adventures. Sometimes spontaneously I'd howl like a wolf.    I'd howl, and howl. My dear friends would howl with me. I invited all listening to join. We'd howl       Into the deep deep night. We in the studio, and those alone with their radios howling.
We all of us would howl into the dawn.

"...no you don't get it. It's not real."

All Creatures Great, and Small.
What would an alien species make of our theologies or we of theirs.
If they had any.
Another evolutionary tree would cook up unique pathologies.
Imagine if the folks from Planet X took our holy books, and theater literally. Suppose they can only take things literally. Their neural wiring can't make the leap from fact to fantasy.
Literature most of the arts would be profound mysteries to them.

"These beings make different realities,...just like that."
An astounding power!
No amount of our telling them it's just made up bullshit will help.
From the "Odyssey" to religions to commercials.
So there's our old pal from the "Alien" franchise
taking at face value da Lawd.

What an interesting, and likely
Terrifying ride
a relationship with them will be.

"No Gort ya just don't get it! "Look we just made that bullshit up. No that Santa guy Godzilla,...yeah even Batman ain't real."
"Eh you getting this?"

"Ice Nine"

It's getting too cold even for me.
The sun is going down, and the temps
are dropping like a rock.
It should settle at 18f this evening, and night.
More than enough ice for even me.
I will not be taking a constitutional tonight.

Though perhaps I will be burning my furniture to keep warm.
That, and enjoying the internet while I still can. This since the FCC chair a Libertarian fanatic has overthrown Net Neutrality.

It will soon be too expensive for any, but the well off to use. If there's ever going to be a revolution this will cause it.
Revolt over Black 12 year olds being shot dead by cops,
"...no".
Revolt because of the poor are in the gutter going hungry,
"...no way".
Revolt because we're causing our own extinction,
"...ZZZZZZ".

They going to take your free porn away.
"WHAT???!!!!"
"To the Barricades!!!!"

"Fucking Venceremos Comrades!"

"Snow 0"

This counts as our third snow fall of the season. Considering that on this date a year ago we were flirting with 70f. I'd say we've got a "normal" winter on our hands. This is seriously fine with me.

I just loves this freezing shit! Beats a heatwave any day. All that deadly New York heat, and humidity has gone back to Hell where it, and Republicans belong!

"Snow I"

I went for another walk in the snow. Like I did several nights ago. Not as far this time, and in the opposite direction. Once again down the Parkway. You can see it in the first snap.
That's my library in the second. Been going there since I was six.
Also the same fence, and tree I snapped before.

The air was very cold. Sharp,...I love that...I just do.

Sue me.

No strong winds like the other night though. Well I'm just back. To bed. Peace to you all.

"Snow II"

"...a walk"

This evening I went out for a rather cold constitutional about my 'Hood. It was about 10pm which is still somewhat early here in the Emerald City. However the streets were empty. It being 24f with a light snow may have had something to do with it.

Most avoid this season as much as they can. I for reasons unknown love, and enjoy it. This was the equivalent of a walk on a sunny June day for me. Go figure.

I wandered along Eastern Parkway. Once a 17th century deer trail, up to Brooklyn Museum/Prospect Park. This the older sister of Central Park. "Prospect" being the feasibility study. I stumbled there, and back. This a mile round trip. Btw my walking is a bit better. A month ago I could never have done this.

Snow. I wasn't expecting this. I've since checked. Nothing big coming our way. Though the Mid-West, and much of our North-East regions are getting hit rather hard. Our turn will come soon enough. This winter is of two minds as to if it will be another very warm one or a "normal" one,...we'll see.

I stopped at the deli on the way back, and treated myself to a few luxuries. Some tangerines, and nuts. Cashews! Loves them. Though sadly unsalted. No choice for me there. Still cashews are cashews. Which btw I'm enjoying as I post.

As I said earlier it's the small pleasant things that keep us in the game. I remember something my late brother John said to me about living a life. "No matter how your circumstance may change. Even if you can only get one small jar of jam for dinner. Make it the finest jam you can get because your dignity deserves it".

This is how I try to live my life then, and now.

A safe, and warm winter to you all.

"On the Job",...chat from FB

Sidney Smith I remember when I would hire an engineer when I ran Ops at a certain radio station. Kids would come in trying to dazzle me with assorted bullshit. I wasn't interested where they went to school one finds how little that matters. Just if they're good at what they do. Are they creative, and interesting. I tended to hire women because they were brilliant, and dedicated. That, and guys over 30,...given the job market. These guys were past their drinking, and driving period so were at least reliable.

Natasha Kuznyetsova I hired an assistant editor. He was a film school graduate. He showed up 3 hours late on his first day and I introduced him to his replacement, who showed up to work 30 minutes after I called him. His only qualification in media was he had acted in some porn. LOL.

Sidney Smith Yep perfectly qualified. That's exactly how it works. Get real people for the job. I wanted smart creative folks that could handle anything that came up. Less rinky dink shit for me, and good for them, and the institution. Simple.

Margaret Schermerhorn I hired a lot of people, but I actually just tossed them to my crew.. If the crew accepted them, and they could work in tight and fast and they had the right level of crazy, they stuck!

Sidney Smith You don't have to be in anybody's face if they know what they're doing. Your job is to give them what they need, and stay out of their way. Yeah as you say if the crew likes their scent if they play well with others it works. I only had to let one go. This is the hardest thing for an administrator to have to do. However it happens. Some times a person just doesn't fit. In that case the guy was chronically late hostile sloppy. Yeah a good engineer sometimes, but no. Like you, and Natasha I tried to run efficient though friendly shop. ...otherwise why bother. Btw them maniacs are still pals of mine years after I retired. We all had the right level of "Crazy".

Natasha Kuznyetsova There was another guy, from Armenia. He just didn't get it. After his 2 weeks we paid him and I lt him go. He gave me a bottle of Armenian brandy.

Sidney Smith Sometimes as I say that happens...though he had a cool attitude about it.

Natasha Kuznyetsova When I got vocational rehab, they sent me to 2 editing schools. One of them was all about the state of the art equipment. The other one had simple equipment and one guy. He showed me how to make an edit, and a video insert. Then he gave me a fight scene from "Gunsmoke". 3 versions. Then he said "Edit on the movement." and left the room. I was an editor.

Margaret Schermerhorn I fired one guy (possibly my best) at least twice.. it never took. I made a rule, "No non-employees behind the counter" So SHIT.. if you make a rule everyone has to comply. He kept having his gf come behind the counter.. He ended up marrying her. He still is a great friend. and he's divorced.

Sidney Smith That's how I learned. I began editing as soon as I got there. The first day. I didn't know shit. However after my department head showed me some simple moves I was on the road. If your instructor trusts that you have it in you. Gives you unspoken trust which you pick up on....you're in the Biz. Aw gee I loved all that.

Sidney Smith I'm glad you're still friends. Though yes some rules are just rules. In the Biz we had Federal broadcast regs. You never as in 'NEVER' fuck with these. Those that went too close got serious shit from me. Fortunately one warning was always enough. A new person would do this a few months in,...almost a rite of passage.
