A shot of the Texas State capital building by my dear cousin Henrietta Cameron-Mann.
Her part of the family settled in Texas
Which by kin makes me Texan too,...sort of.

Comments:

Texas will be a Republic again,...they will. This'll give me dual Citizenship. A kinda mixed blessing.

I actually took it in January, two years ago. We have a small foothold in Texas, although my daughter moved to NYC. Frances lives in El Paso, but her daughter and family moved to Maryland.

I remember how your father our uncle Owen used to drive the family all the way up to NYC for visits every several years. We always so looked forward to this. I imagine the Green Book was useful! For those not knowing. This was a travelers guide for Negros, and nonwhites in the 1950's thru the 70's in the USA. It got you where you wanted to go alive, and safe. Click to enlarge, "...20 years service to the Negro Community. I think it may be needed again.

I had not heard of the green book until a few years ago. We usually went from El Paso to New York through the mid-west and didn't have any problems that I was aware of. We could have used the Green Book the one time we went through the south and up the east cost. I remember that whenever we needed to go to a restaurant or a hotel, my father would make us wait in the car and he would go in. A lot of times, he would come back out and we would move on to the next hotel or restaurant. If it was "okay", he would signal us to come on in to the restaurant or hotel. I had no idea what was going on at the time and my parents were not forthcoming. I think I was 6 or 7. I thought that my father was checking to see if the place was clean enough for us to eat at or stay in! It wasn't until years later that I figured out that these were places that refused service to us because of our race.
