"...out times"

From my 2020 Covid Journals.

Our flag at half-mast. She flutters in front of historic PS~167. This in my 'Hood. I took the image on March 28th, 2020, at the start of local Lockdowns.  She remains at half-staff 297 days later. I woke today to new numbers. To put it in context. The U.S. combat deaths in WW2 was 297,557. The CDC reported today's U.S. COVID perished as 308,957. We have just fought a Great War.

The National Cathedral in Washington rang 300 times for each 1000 of our perished. In the world the number nears two millions. The infection rate in this country nears 20 millions. The deaths in our republic are at or near 3000 a day. Such times.

Here at home we're viciously hatefully divided. The economy is ruined. Millions wait on lines for food...including me, and numbers of you. Most for the first time in your lives. Yet there is hope. Our national election last month turned out the demagogue head of state. Whose lack of leadership empathy, and gross incompetence regards the pandemic, and so much else led to those numbers.

Vaccines are starting to be distributed. A new sane compassionate administration will adhere to science, and reality. We begin again. I sat today watching the first snow fall. The Emerald City's first real storm of the season. I wondered at it. Nature the Earth Abides. We are her children and should at least attempt to abide in peace with her.
